Do You Know Jesus?

Perhaps you aren’t familiar with the fairytale that began all fairytales. Perhaps the story of the cross has never come alive to you. Perhaps you still see God as some cosmic force that resides in outer space and has no part in your life today. I understand. I was raised in church, but God didn’t come to life for me until I was fourteen years old and read Shannon Kubiak Primicerio’s interpretation of a God who dances.

If you’re looking for something that will rock your world, allow me to introduce you to the God of the fairytales:

Once upon a time, God created the heavens and the earth. With a single breath, He made the stars, the air, the seas. When God spoke, antelope burst to life, leaping through the safari; fish exploded into being, dancing through the coral reefs in a flash of color. He looked at what He had created and said that it was good. Then God did something He had never done before. He got down in the dirt and began to shape it into a masterpiece. He could have spoken as He had before, but He didn’t. Because this creation was different. This creation was special. This creation was formed in the very image of the Most High.

But this creation – human, as it’s called – strayed from the Creator. God’s special masterpiece turned its back on the Most High, disobeying His commands. And, in doing so, it did the one thing no other creation had been given the power to do…It broke God’s heart.

But did God remain bitter? No. Did He cast aside His prized creation for all eternity? Certainly not. With a whisper through the ages, He begged them to return to Him. Time and time again, humankind betrayed Him, abandoning themselves in the arms of other lovers, yet God continued to welcome them back with open arms.

But their sins became too many. The chasm grew too wide. The distance between God and His creation was too vast a gap for any man to bridge. But God wanted His creation to be with Him once more, so He offered the final sacrifice. He sent His Son to die, knowing that this demonstration of love would be the only thing powerful enough to reunite heaven and earth.

This is the fairytale that inspired all other fairytales. There was a King who yearned for the end of a curse, a Prince who was willing to sacrifice His very life for His beloved, and a love that is stronger than death.

The story of our world in a nutshell is that God created, God loved, and Jesus died. It doesn’t make sense, but then… fairytales rarely do. Why does the prince marry the peasant? Why does Beauty fall in love with the beast? Why does a Lover surrender His life in hopes that His beloved will be restored to Him?

If you’ve never experienced the magic of this real-life fairytale, consider this your invitation to the palace. The Prince of Heaven surrendered His life in order to spend eternity with you.

And all we humans have to do to earn the restoration Jesus offers is simply believe that He came, died to save us, and rose again because death was not strong enough to conquer His love. All we have to do is accept the invitation, thank Him for His sacrifice, and ask Him to include us in His divine story.

We hope to see you at the palace someday!
